I don't know if my dog is a narcissist but I know that I am so it would be that by default my dog would also have his life fully documented for the sole purpose of indulging the ego of the documenter.
And of course since my dog is illiterate the blog about him has to be written by me and as a result will likely end up being mostly about me.
And in that vein ... I got a dog! His name is Blago and he doesn't NOT look like his namesake. His favorite place is also under the table, typical politician. Today was the first Snow day of his life and I'm glad to see he was as excited about it as I was ... not that I was excited for him on his first snow day but that I was excited about the first snow day of the season.
I remember my first Colorado snow day. It was 9 years ago and one afternoon while it was raining in Boulder it apparently had snowed a little bit north of town which I noticed as I drove north on U.S. 36 near what is now the Holiday neighborhood. I was so excited about the first snow since I moved here that instead of doing whatever it was I was heading to north Boulder for I instead drove to Lyons to find some place where there was enough snow from this non-consequential dusting for me to get involved. I found almost enough snow for a snowball at about Neva road and then headed back to town.
What was great about this first snow day was that I remembered that winter is my favorite season. It's sometimes easy to forget, especially since this past summer was so awesome.
One of the things in life that is so easy to forget but so important to remember is that just because something is awesome it doesn't mean its better than you're favorite. This summer was awesome because of things that had nothing to do with summer. It had everything to do with the experiences I had and the people I spent this summer with. It was incredbile despite the fact that I was a little uncomfortable all the time. I actually prefer a slight chill on my skin.
In terms of the visceral pleasure of just simply being there I hands down prefer winter's bite to summer's smothering. I realize this is a minority opinion and I suspect that it is because most people are actually viscerally happier to be there in the summer that such awesome things tend to happen in the summer. Further I concede that outside of Ski Season and the holiday's winter has less cool things happening ("winter is less cool" c'mon that was hilarious and when was I going to have the chance to use that unless I set it up myself).
However the important lesson here is that whether its a person, place or time, it's nice to be able to have sincere situational love for another and know that it does not detract from your most sincere love for your favorite. I now feel comfortable in my love affair with sailing and can enjoy it more because I don't have to fear that it would replace skiing, its just in addition to it. Its not that I love summer instead of winter, its that I love summer also. Also is such a better alternative to instead and so I hope that for the 3 people that read this blog to witness my indulgence in my own narcissism that you have enough room to also indulge my dog but certainly not instead of me. I was worried that if I got a dog I would become one of those people that posts pictures of their dog everywhere ... it appears my "concern" was actually just "I've met me before".
So enjoy the below over-reaction to Blago's first snowday and the first episdoe (assuming follow through) of a new thread in the international man of leisure series ... 'The Blagospere"
